Abayev, Oset halk\u0131n\u0131n milli fikriyat\u0131n\u0131n geli\u015fmesi ve Osetlerin kendi k\u00fclt\u00fcrel miraslar\u0131na derin bir ilgiyle e\u011filmeleri konusunda \u00f6nemli hizmetler vermi\u015ftir. Bilim adam\u0131 olarak d\u00fcnyaca tan\u0131nmas\u0131 Alanlar ve Nartlar hakk\u0131ndaki de\u011ferli ara\u015ft\u0131rmalar\u0131 ve \u0130ran\u015finasl\u0131k dal\u0131nda ortaya koydu\u011fu de\u011ferli eserleriyle ba\u011fl\u0131d\u0131r. Kafkasya halklar\u0131n\u0131n tarih ve k\u00fclt\u00fcr\u00fcn\u00fcn \u00f6nemli bir ara\u015ft\u0131rmac\u0131s\u0131 olan G. Dumezil 1976&#8217;da \u015f\u00f6yle yazm\u0131\u015ft\u0131: &#8220;Moskova da ara\u015ft\u0131rmalara ba\u015fkanl\u0131k eden ki\u015fi, y\u00fcksek k\u00fclt\u00fcrl\u00fc bir Oset olan V.I. Abayev&#8217;dir (Abayti Vasso). Kendisi dil, tarih ve halkbilim dal\u0131nda bir\u00e7ok de\u011ferli makale ve kitab\u0131n yazar\u0131d\u0131r.&#8221; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"> V. Abayev&#8217;in ara\u015ft\u0131rd\u0131\u011f\u0131 ana konulardan biri, Osetlerin bir halk olarak hangi k\u00f6kenden olduklar\u0131 meselesidir. Abayev, ad\u0131 ge\u00e7en bu halklar aras\u0131nda \u00e7ok s\u0131k\u0131 k\u00fclt\u00fcr ve dil ba\u011flar\u0131 bulundu\u011funu tespit etmi\u015ftir.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"> Bir\u00e7ok halklara ait yaz\u0131l\u0131 kaynaklar korunamam\u0131\u015f ve bize ula\u015famam\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Fakat Abayev gibi bilginler, bir halk\u0131n ge\u00e7mi\u015fini ortaya koyan yaz\u0131l\u0131 kaynaklar bulunmamas\u0131n\u0131n o halk\u0131n tarihinin olmad\u0131\u011f\u0131 anlam\u0131na gelmedi\u011fini kan\u0131tlam\u0131\u015flard\u0131r. Bu bak\u0131mdan halk\u0131n milli dilinin, mitlerinin ve halk edebiyat\u0131n\u0131n incelenmesi olduk\u00e7a \u00f6nemli ip u\u00e7lar\u0131 vermektedir. V. Abayev 1925 y\u0131l\u0131nda, daha gen\u00e7ken &#8220;Oset\u015finasl\u0131kta Yeni Bilgiler&#8221; ba\u015fl\u0131kl\u0131 bir makale yazarak Oset dilinin bu halk\u0131n tarihinin ara\u015ft\u0131r\u0131lmas\u0131 i\u00e7in \u00f6nemli bir anahtar malzeme oldu\u011funu vurgulam\u0131\u015ft\u0131:&#8221; Bu \u00e7ok eski ve fakat hala canl\u0131 olan kelimeleri incelemek suretiyle, Oset dilinin tarihi manzaras\u0131 i\u00e7inde Oset halk\u0131n\u0131n tarihinin ana hatlar\u0131 g\u00f6r\u00fclebilir.&#8221; \u0130\u015fte bu do\u011frultuda uzun y\u0131llar incelemeler yapan V. Abayev, y\u0131llar sonra ald\u0131\u011f\u0131 sonu\u00e7lar\u0131 &#8220;Dil Malzemesine G\u00f6re Oset Halk\u0131n\u0131n Tarihine Giri\u015f&#8221; adl\u0131 b\u00fcy\u00fck eserinde bir araya getirmi\u015ftir.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"> V I. Abayev \u00fcnl\u00fc bir etnograf ve dil bilginidir. &#8220;Oset Dilinin Tarihi- Etimolojik S\u00f6zl\u00fc\u011f\u00fc&#8221; n\u00fc o haz\u0131rlam\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. D\u00f6rt ciltlik bu temel eser, b\u00fcy\u00fck ilgi uyand\u0131rm\u0131\u015f, Abayev&#8217;e bir\u00e7ok \u00f6d\u00fcl kazand\u0131rm\u0131\u015f, d\u00fcnyaca tan\u0131nmas\u0131na yol a\u00e7m\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Abayev bu s\u00f6zl\u00fck \u00fczerinde yakla\u015f\u0131k 40 y\u0131l \u00e7al\u0131\u015fm\u0131\u015f, mukayese ve analiz i\u00e7in en az 180 dil, leh\u00e7e, \u015fiveyi \u00f6\u011frenmi\u015f ve ara\u015ft\u0131rm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"> Abayev\u2019e g\u00f6re,ger\u00e7ek bilim adam\u0131 i\u00e7in \u00f6nemli olan, d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcnce ve yaratma \u00f6zg\u00fcrl\u00fc\u011f\u00fcd\u00fcr. Ger\u00e7eklere ba\u011fl\u0131 kalmakt\u0131r. Bilimde milliyet\u00e7i \u00f6nyarg\u0131lar\u0131n ve kibrin yeri yoktur: &#8220;Bilim adam\u0131n\u0131n milliyeti, yani milli kimli\u011fi, kendisinin bilimsel g\u00f6r\u00fc\u015f ve yakla\u015f\u0131mlar\u0131n\u0131 etkiliyorsa o zaman bilimden bahsedilemez. Abayev, ukalal\u0131k ye kelime oyunlar\u0131n\u0131n i\u00e7eri\u011fi olumsuz y\u00f6nde etkiledi\u011fini, hatta bunlar\u0131n fikirdeki zay\u0131fl\u0131\u011f\u0131 saklamak i\u00e7in kulland\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 savunuyordu. Kendisi \u00f6\u011frencilerine daima bu hususu hat\u0131rlatm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Abayev, asl\u0131nda Oset\u015finasl\u0131kta (Osetinoloji) bir ekol kurmu\u015ftur. Kafkasya\u2019n\u0131n tarihini, dillerini ve k\u00fclt\u00fcr\u00fcn\u00fc ara\u015ft\u0131ran bir\u00e7ok bilim adam\u0131 Abayev\u2019in \u00f6\u011frencileridir ve onun ara\u015ft\u0131rma y\u00f6ntemlerini benimsemi\u015flerdir. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"> Abayev, Moskova&#8217;daki Oset K\u00fclt\u00fcr Derne\u011fi &#8220;Farn&#8221;\u0131n da kurucular\u0131ndan biridir. Y\u00fczlerce aktif \u00fcyesi bulunan bu derne\u011fin amac\u0131, toplumda bireylerin kayna\u015fmas\u0131n\u0131, halklar aras\u0131nda ho\u015fg\u00f6r\u00fc ve anlay\u0131\u015f\u0131 sa\u011flamakla beraber, Oset k\u00fclt\u00fcr\u00fcn\u00fc yayg\u0131n hale getirmek, halk sanat\u0131n\u0131 sevdirmek, gen\u00e7lerin milli duygular\u0131n\u0131 geli\u015ftirmek, Moskova&#8217;daki benzer milli k\u00fclt\u00fcr dernekleri ile i\u015fbirli\u011fi yapmakt\u0131r. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"> V.Abayev, 18 Ekim 1990&#8217;da Vladikavkaz&#8217;da yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131 bir konu\u015fmada \u015f\u00f6yle demi\u015ftir: &#8220;Bizim bug\u00fcnk\u00fc ana hedefimiz ahlak ve maneviyat\u0131m\u0131za d\u00f6nebilmektir. S\u0131k s\u0131k insan fakt\u00f6r\u00fcnden bahsediyorlar&#8230; Ve dolay\u0131s\u0131yla sosyal, politik, ekonomik y\u00f6nden olgun ye m\u00fckemmel toplum kurman\u0131n tek yolu, maneviyat\u0131 y\u00fcksek ye ahlakl\u0131 bir insan g\u00fcc\u00fcne sahip olmakt\u0131r. Kan\u0131mca her insan etraf\u0131nda hay\u0131r ve faziletten olu\u015fan bir cazibe \u00e7emberi yaratabilir.
